ASIA-MINOR RAILWAYS.

TURKISH CONCESSION TO BRITISH COMPANY. By Telegraph.— Association.— Constantinople, September 18. The Turkish Government has granted to the Smyrna-Aidin Railway Company a 50-years' prolongation of its concession; also the right to extend its line to Lake Aegerdir and Burdur. This great success of British speculators has been due to the action of the British Ambassador at Constantinople, Sir Nicholas O'Conor. ; The Smyrna-Aidin Company is English, and its railway starts at Smyrna and runs at present, to Alashehr—a distance of 320 mils?. For some time the company has been seeking a right, to extend the line eastward, _but the influence of German speculators in the Bagdad railway has prevented it. In August the Times announced that the Turkish Government had refused to grant an extension to the company. It added: "It seems that the claims of this British company to fair treatment are seemingly regarded as subordinate to those .of the German company holding the concession for the Bagdad railway. This British company is not allowed to build, further until it comes to terms with the promoters of the German scheme.*' Apparently the concession has been obtained without terms being made with the Germans. The sanctioned extension is a littlo more, than 100 miles.
