[FROM OUR OWN CORRKSPOKPBHTS.] 6TAHUIIU. \ '.. : The fortnightly meeting of the Mutual Improvement Association took place on Monday night and was well attended. The Rev. C. A. Vaughan read a short but excellent essay on Thackeray, and illustrative readings were given by -the following ladies and gentlemen :—Mesdanies Mason **' ,son ' Miss Wannop, and Messrs. Sturges, Hall, and West. The next meeting should be one of exceptional interest, as Mr. Maxwell Walker, M.A., and some friends from Auckland have promised to give dramatic readings and recitations from representative authors. HUNTLY. THE mission which was'opened in St. Anthony's uoman Catholic Church,on Sunday, .September a. by the Rev. Father Chine (Redemptionist), ably assisted by the. Rev. Father Cahill, of St. latrick's Cathedral, Auckland, was brought to a close on Sunday night and was most successful in everyway. . After., nine o'clock Mass each mo ™ ln short instructions were given on the An a* lc , faith ' flnd ' each night'the church-was niied, eloquent discourses being given by Father llurje After eleven o'clock Mass on Sunday His Lordship Bishop Lenihan administered the sacrament of confirmation, to between 20 and 30 candidates, and afterwards gave a brief instruction °™., t,le Holy Sacrament. On Sundav evening Hither Clune closed the mission with an able sermon. ....,,., HUNUA. ' On September 13 a very enjovable time was' spent by the Mutual Improvement Society. The first item was a song, "In the Cathedral," given by Miss Rhodes; then followed an interesting magazine, which was read by Miss Martin. The items were supplied by. the members of. the society. Mr. Price closed the programme with a song, entitled "The Romany. Lass." ■ The next meeting is to take the form of a social.
' KARANGAHAKE.. ' , The anniversary services of the Karaugahake Presbyterian Church were j held ion Sunday last, when the Rev. G. B. Monro, of St. Luke's, Renmera, preached to large congregations. • The- animal concert -was., held in ; the Public Hull on Monday night, and a most enjoyable evening was (•pent, concluding with refreshments supplied by. t id ladies of the congregation.
