AMATEUR BOXING CLUB.

, 'tournament IN THK federal HALL. Tim Auckland Amateur Boxing Club's tournament was commenced last night at. the Federal Hall. There was a very good attendance, all parti of the hall being well filled. Mr. Dixon Ward presided, and in bis opening remarks eulogised the sport, arid exhorted all young. men to keep it on the i cleanest lines possible. The athletics, of the British race .wove of a robust nature, and tended to fit those who took part in them to fight tho battle of life in' worthy manner. Mr. E. Donovan wis referee and controlled the sport in an efficient manner. - ' LIGHT-WEIGHTS. The first bout was between G. Harvord and A. Elliott, and after the first round it was obvious that Harvord was the better, and he was declared the winner in the third round. P. Bardic, v. A. Goddard: After two good even rounds Goddard obtained a decided lead in the third and obtained the verdict. W. .Welon v.. J. Henderson. The -first, two rounds were fairly even, each man showing considerable cleverness. In the third round Henderson scored repeatedly and maintaining his advantage to the finish was declared the winner. FEATHER-WEIGHTS. A. Gault v. J. McGovern: This was expected to be the most interesting event of tho evening, but in the first rally G-ault scored heavily twice, and McGovern be-ins practically knocked out, the referee awarded the bout to Gault. H. Donovan v. R. Jackton : The first round opened well, but towards the finish Donovan obtained a lead, and in the second round after some fast work Jackson was knocked out. BAXTAM-WEIGHTS. P. Pooley v. H. Jack This, was an interesting bout, and after four extremely even rounds the referee was unable to separate them and declared the contest a draw. ' MIDDLE-WEIGHTS. R. Hunter v. V. Harrington : In the first round there was some fast and interesting work in which Hunter gained a slight advantage. The second round was also fast, both men scoring freely. In .the concluding rounds Harrington did most work and was awarded the verdict. • ■ The tournament will be concluded ' this evening. The chief attraction will be a. 10round bout between Batchelor and Cripps.
