MEETINGS.
LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION The Ellerslie branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation held a successful meeting on Thursday.night, when several new members were enrolled. Mr. Taylor, M.A., gave an interesting lecture on the reciprocal treaty. He said that the only foundation on which reciprocity could be laid to give universal satisfaction would be by arbitration, say, half-a-dozen experienced men, representing each centre, to frame the treaty. Then we should have a treaty that, would give general satisfaction. Several items were discussed in relation to the coming conference in Wellington. A debating society has been formed in connection with the Federation, which is being appreciated by th-j younger members, who arc lakii.rr an active part in the meetings. FONSONBY CRICKET CLUB. The annual meeting of the Ponsonby District Cricket Club was held in Leys Institute, Ponsonby, last night. Mr.' G. 3. Plummer occupied the chair in the absence of the president (Mr. T. T. Masorield). There was a fair attendance. The annual report stated that none of the championships were won by the club, this being no-doubt largely due to the want of a good practice ground. The committee had now engaged two pitches at Victoria Park for the coming season. It whs expected that these would bo at the club's disposal in November.' fill which time practice will be held on the old pitche-. Trophies were presented by Messrs. H. J. Yale* and C. .T. Parr to the senior grade for the best batting average and best allround ►player, ana those, were won by Messrs. ll..'M«'on ami C. Cummings respectively. The balance-sheet showed receipts £55 4s 2d- expenditure £Js* 5= 9d • liabilities £20 10s: and cash in band £l'lßs'sd.. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. C. -T. Parr: patrons,_ Bishop Lentban and Archdeacon Calcler: vice-presidents. Messrs. T. W. Leys. J. Kirke>-, A. and R. J. Collins, J. Hodgson, and the Rev.' A. North; secretary. Mr. J. 11. Braitbwaite;- assist-ant-secretary, Mr. J. Hatchings: treasurer, Mr. 0. H. Plummor, auditor. Mr. C. V. Langsford: Managing Committee. Messrs. P. White, R. Woods,".!. H. Watts, J. Gavin, E. McCoy. V. Plummet-, and the secretary and treasurer. Messrs. Woods and Cummings were appointed selectors to act in conjunction with captains of each team. The annual subscriptions for players in the third and fourth grades were reduced from 10s 6d to 7s 6d. Several new members .were elected. Mr. T. T. Mssefield was elected a life member of tho club. AVON-BALE MUSICAL SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Avondale Musical Society was held in the Avondalc Hall on Thursday. . All the previous year's officers were re-elected, with the addition of Mrs. Simpson and Mr. Bluke-y on the committee. A hearty vote of thanks was given to the conductor (Mr. .1. R. Simpson) for the efficient manner in which he had worked tr. make the society a success; also to Miss listed, lor the untiring way in which she had acted as accompanist, and to the officers and committee. .
