Concerning the small birds nuisance the Timaru Post lias the following: Forty pounds earned in five weeks by the aid of two small bird traps is not a'bad record, especially when it is considered that this is what may be termed only a "side show." That is to say, the birds" can be trapped and the ordinary work of the farm carried on at the same time, without incouvenience. The record above quoted has just been established at Hunter (about seven miles westward from Makikihi), on Mr. Chas. Jackson's farm. Mr. Jackson, jun., showed to a Post reporter receipts from the Waimate County Council (where the birds were sold)) for over £40, the.whole of which money he received between July 3 and August 11. During this period he has trapped and sold no fewer than 10,068 birds. Recently he received a, cheque from the Waimate County Council for £15 10s iu payment for his last catch of 3720 birds.
