. / Whangakici, Monday. At a meeting of the Acclimatisation Society on Saturday evening there was a good attendance. The, Government regulations for fishing next season - wore approved. - The Wairoa Acclimatisation Society desired to procure a quantity of Virginian quail from the Whangarei Society. The secretary was instructed to reply that the society had no facilities for catching" the quail. The present revenue account for the- current year showed that £97 10s had been received for game licenses. It was resolved to solid notices to applicants for fish that the fry will be ready for removal from th» Whau Whau hatchery in 1* days from date. In reply to the society's circular reconimeudihg a clou season for native and "imported.- game in 1306-7, the Auckland Soefeiy stated that they would bo unable to enforce such an order. The Bay. of Islands and Hobson Society, while recognising the advantages *of such a bourse, declared they could not do without the revenue..' It was resolved to apply to the Government for partridges, Californian quail, and pheasants, ■ At a'meeting of the Marsden branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation on Saturday, evening a large number of new members were elected and others proposed. Matters affecting the '-progress of: the .Wbaugarci district and questions relating to-'politics were fully discussed. ; About 40 gentlemen, representing practically the whole commercial community of Whangarei, were present on Saturday at the opening of the, Commercial Chambers a handsome and substantial block of buildings, just completed ir Bank-street. Manv speeches were made, the remarks being chiefly indicative of the growth and prosperity of the district, and confidence for still greater and more rapid development in the future.
