Ail Association football match, the final in the Brown' Shield tournament, was played here on Saturday, between Wellington (holders) and a Taranaki rep. team. The game was splendidly contested, and was a capital exhibition of soccer football. In the first half of the game Wellington, with the assistance of the wind, had far the best of the fame, but the Taranaki. backs showed fine defence. About eight minutes from the interval Schofield scored an easy goal for Wellington, j the ball passing between the goalkeeper's legs. Shortly after, Schofield again scored; and Wellington was leading by two goals to nil at half-time. On resuming, the game was very evenly contested, though the Wellington forwards were far superior to the home lot, and showed splendid combination. Taranaki had bad- luck "in not scoring on several occasions.';, Hodges scored twice for Wellington, and the game ended: Wellington, four goals; Taranaki, nil. For Wellington. Irvine, Roberts, Schofield, Black and Hodges, showed good play;• and Bullock, Deck, and Hutchinson played best among the Taranaki backs. An alteration in the forwards at the last moment spoilt the combination, but they did well against a keen defence.
