AUCKLAND HA RBOUR BOARD.

Ax ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present: The Hon. E. Mitchelson (chairman), Messrs. C. C. Dacre, A. Keyes, J. Laxon, J. Kneen, W. J. W. Philson, R. Logan, jun., J. M. Menuie, ,|J. W. Basley, S. C. Brown, and W. E. Hutchison.

Telephone Facilities: A number of city merchants petitioned the Board to have a telephone installed in B shed on Queen-street Wharf.

Plague Precautions: Mr. P. Virtu© wrote regarding plague precautions asking the Board'to remind the harbourmaster not to berth Sydney steamers or sailing vessels at Quay-street or towjr wharves. This was promised on the occasion of the last plague outbreak at Sydney. The letter was received. Queen-street Wharf: Mr. Dacre moved, in accordance with notice, "That-the Works and Tariff Committee consider the advisableness of placing Queen-street Wharf in such a state of repair, as will carry the heavy traffic until such time as the various portions of the wharf will be removed." Mr.' Ivneen said one of the Union Company's trucks broke through a portion of the wharf a few days ago. The matter wag then referred to the Works and Tariff Committee, the' engineer to report to the committee. Tenders: Tenders for eastings and forgings as per schedule were received from Messrs. Beaney Bros., of Archhill, (i. Frasor, Massey Bros., •Sea-get Bros., and C. Judd. and they 1 were left' to' the.chairman and engineer to deal with.

Works and Tariff Committee:. The Works. and Tariff Committee reported," with regard to Mr. J. Iteicl's complaint: about removal of shingle from foreshore, Motutapu, that' the greater'portion of Motutapu Island was not under.the'-jurisdiction of.the Board. In accordance with the by-laws the committee recommended that harbour- dues be levied upon ail goods landed or shipped from the wharf at Cox's Creek. Consideration of the question about gangways, arising out of the accident, en the scow Southern Isle, had been deferred. The committee also recommended that a sub-committee,-consisting of Messrs. Hutchison, Ivcyes, and Logan, be appointed to confer with the secretary and engineer as to subdivision of shops, offices, etc., in proposed new buildings for offices for Ferry Comnany. and police, and letting putnoses. With reference to the letter of Mr. S. 11. Mack.v, as to proposed rifle range at Narrow Neck, the committee recommended that the request be declined. The Board was recommended to invite tenders for printing and supply of coal, ironmongery, and benzine. The report, was adopted.
