ATHLETICS.
The completed programme for the New Zealand Athletic Union • championships at the Exhibition ! has been placed in the.hands' of the Executive Commissioners (says the Canterbury Times). It contains nearly iU items, including a Sheffield, fqr which £30 is first prize. The championships are well assorted, and include 100 yds, 220 yds, HOyds, and the hurdles. As duly-constituted championships of New Zealand are attached to these events, as well as substantial prizes,, competitors and athletes in general will oe more than usually interested. The wrestling championship carries with, it the gold medal donated by the late Premier. All the events usually found on athletic programmes, especially on those of Caledonian societies, aye amply provided for.' A Highland fling:, in costume, for 'girls under sixteen, is included, tho-first prize being-.* handsome,gold .medal from His Excellency tho Governor. Bagpipe music and Scottish dancing items have i met with th© hf»artv approval of' the affiliated Scottish and Caledonian societies' to which the draft programme Was referred. Two days'- meetings have been.asked for. and the dates suggested are Friday and Saturday, January 18 and 19, a few days after the axemen's carnival.
