In committee of the House of Commons yesterday, clause 8 of the* Education Bill was passed. \ Mr. -Bin-ell \accepted an. amendment requiring the local authority to accept, rents fixed by the Commissioners. Clause 8 provider for dealing.:wiih '-voluntary schools taken over that are held under charitable trusts and for payment Lv the local authority for the use of the buildings. The conditions of the taking over of "such 'schools are to be fixed by a commission. from whose decision there, is no appeal. PRIMATE OF AUSTRALIA'S COM(Received July 18. 9.22 p.m.) , Adklai.de, July 10. The Primate .of' Australia, (Dr. Saumare?. Smith) has returned from his visit to England. Interviewed with reference to the Education Bill, he said it was a nutter of great, rejoicing that there was such a. strong desire in England for religious education in the schools. Secularism was nowhere, but there was a contest between people who wanted 'general Bible leaching; -and those who wanted denominational teaching-with a conscience clause. - On the .whole, lie expressed the opinion that really good results would come from the amended Bill.
