DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.
[W TELEGRAPH. CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Tuesday. The death is announced of a very old colonist, Mr.. Edward Cahill, late of the '65th Regiment (Royal Engineers). The deceased veteran, who- was "born in 1823,; at Richardstown, Ireland, enlisted at Mai-1 lengar. and. with his regiment sailed for Norfolk Wand in charge of a batch of convicts in the John Colviii. From Sydney "his regiment came on to New Zealand, in the troopship Java. After being stationed some'time in. Auckland, the 65th was ordered to Wellington, leaving Auckland in the Thomas Lowry, and arriving here in 1846. On obtaining his discharge he .decided to.settle in Wellington, where he has since remained. Deceased, who lost his wife some four, years ago, leave* a grown-up family of one son (Mr. W. B. Cahill, Colonial Secretary's Department),' and three daughters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
