MUSIC IN ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCHES.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— own correspondent]
Wellington; Monday. One of the first actions of Pope Pius X. which excited any world-wide comment was the issuing of a decree that the class of music used in Roman Catholic churches should be superseded by the old plain and Gregorian chants, and that choirs should consist of males only. Orchestras also were forbidden, but the organ will be retained. A committee of clergy representing the Wellington diocese will meet at the Meanee Seminary, Hawke's Bay* this' week, to consider the methods which shall be adopted in carrying into- effect the decree of the Holy See. . ~"
