AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board- 'was held yesterday afternoon. There were present: Tile Hon. E. Mitchclson (chairman), Messrs. W. K. Hutchison, S. C. Brown, G. W. Ba'sley, J. 51. Metinie, J. Laxon, A. K-cves, J. Knecn, W. J. W. Philson, R. Logan, jun., and C C. Dacre.
Delay in Removing Material: The general manager for railways, writing with reference to the Board's complaint regarding delay in removal of rails at Auckland v/harva?, stated that any delay was in no way duo to the Railway Department. Messrs. Craig and Co. desired to unload the rails at a certain position in the railway yards, which was objected to by the Department for very good reasons, but there was ample space otherwise available, and this was pointed out to Mr. Craig. Apart from this there was necessarily .some delay through the boats unloading during the night, when the carts were not available, thus causing an accumulation ■of rails by the morning, which it took tome considerable time to ciear. This,' however, was • inseparable from the , unloading" of big lots of material, ex snip. Bo iar as the. Department was concerned every effort would be made to facilitate removal of rails within reasonable time.—The letter was received, and tho secretary instructed to .forward a copy to Messrs. .). .). Craig. 1 ttobson-strect Wharf Approach: The City Council wrote acknowledging receipt of the Board's letter, agreeing to tho Council's proposal for improving 1 lie approach to laob-son-street. Wharf. The city ,< engineer had been instructed to confer with the Board's engineer, and to prepare plans and specifications. I'ho letter was formally received. Cadet Rifle Range: Mr. W. H. Macky, of Devonport school, wrote, stating that the Devonport Borough Council had granted tho school cadets the use. of the western end of the Narrow Neck beach as a riflo range, but it; was discovered that the beach was under the jurisdiction of the Harbotu Board.. He, therefore, applied to the Board for the requisite permission. The letter Was referred to the Vvorks and Tariff Committee, the harbourmaster to report. $ King's Drive: A. B. Patersonand Co., representing the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, whose stores are " situated on King's Drive, drew attention to the condition of the road. The chairman moved that the letter be referred to .the Works and Tariff Committee, and in doing so, said the Board had a large sum on the estimates for this work. :
Works and Tariff Committee: The' Works and Tariff Committee reported having considered a letter from Mr. W. E. Wain house, ro compensation for accident to Mrs. Wainliouse, and traffic manager's report thereon, and recommended that the writer he informed that tin- Board regretted it could admit no liability on account of accident. The committee recommended that the chairman and Mr. Meiinie be appointed a committee to consult with the Collector of Customs in reference to storage charges on goods obtained by Customs authorities. With regard to the letter from the town clerk, Parnell, re jetty. King's Drive roadway, the committee recommended that the application bo granted, jetty to be 120 ft by 30ft, estimated cost, £350, to be constructed out of old material. The committee also recommended that a site for timber booms be granted to 'the Waitemata Sawmill Company, - westward of the> Leylarid-O'Brien Company's wharf. The committee also recommended that the foundations of the Board's buildings should be underpinned, as suggested by the engineer. The report was adopted without amendment.
