COLONEL LEUCHARS AGAIN ATTACKED. DESPERATE VALOUR OF REBELS. REPULSED AFTER HEAVY FIGHTING. By Telegraph.—Press A-iociation.—Copyright-Pieteemaritzburg. May 31. Colonel Leuchars left Krantzkop, in Natal, on Tuesday, crossed the border into Zululand. and seized some cattle belonging to the rebels. He then entrenched in a mealie garden and placed the Sibindi natives in the centre. Yesterday morning 1000 rebels made a sudden and desperate attack. They shot continuously at the Sibindi friendlies, and killed three and wounded twelve. They displayed the greatest bravery, and some of them fell within a. few yards of the British lines. Eventually they were repulsed and retreated. Some of the rebels were armed with battleaxes. REBELS IN CAVES. DRIVEN OUT BY TROOPS. (Received June 1, 9.34 p.m.) . Pietermaritzburg, June I. Troops have been operating near the scene of Colonel McKenzie's fight on Tuesday. The natives had taken refuge in caves, which the troops have cleared. When driving the rebels out of the caves the troops killed 21 of them. There were no British casualties. Another of the chief Kula's brothers has been arrested.
