THE GOLDEIELDS.

:-..;———.i <».,,.„ ___ '*■'■' . OLD , HAURAKI TRIBUTERS' RETURN. ''•'" •Teibitebs in the Old Hauraki mine (Coro•mandel) have crushed three loads of ore and 91b of picked .stone for a return of 31oz 15dwt of melted gold, worth £94 18s 3d. ,\ -'J: •:' 'THAMES. ' .'/• ' ; A NEW KIND OF LODE. ' , • [BY TELEGRAPH.— .COEEESI'OXDENT.] - : - Thames, Friday. • The new air-compressor in connection with the Thames Gold Mining Company's mine and the Alburnia lias been placed'in. position, and is working satisfactorily, there being now plenty of power to enabl the rock drill to be used.in both mines. A contract has been let in the Thames mine to rise lOOit with the rock drill, and work was commenced by the contractors yesterday. The lode in the top of the rise 'is looking well, and has opened out to about 15in "in thickness. .Work has also been recommenced in the face of the south drive on -the lode, there being now • sufficient air available to allow of this work being continued a.t the same time as the rise. The lode in the face of this drive is also in.creasing in size, and is now' about 18in thick. The ore coining to hand from both ( these workings is of good quality, showing' '.gold ,freely, and l gives assay, .values from £12 to £350 per ton, the larger values being from a dark band of stone running with the white quartz, and varying in width, and in which no gold cam .be ,seen. with the naked eye. but is plainly to be seen pepper'ed through the stone by the aid of a good 'glass-/- The nature of this; lode'is something quite new.on the Thames, nothing of the same, class having been previously worked. There is, however, no great extent of it yetopened up, it having only been driven on for about 60ft and risen for about 30ft, and the value of the find will depend on further development in the drive and rise. Should the. same class of ore. continue for any extent there is ho doubt that the discovery will be. a valuable one.

NEW MOANATAIRARI. [by TELEGRAPH.—own correspondent.], • a Thames, Friday. : The improvement which took place last' week in the bottom of the winze, on the ■Cambria reef below No. 3 level in the New Moanataiari mine still continues,- and dabs of gold arc seen.freely through the hangingwall rib of quartz, and although this rib is .only a™ yet small in size, its present .underlie indicates that it will drop into the reef itself lower down the' winze, in which'' case there is every ■ciiaiu.o of its carrying gold into the main reef. • "TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. [BY TELEGRAPH.— "CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Friday. Matters in connection with tlio Talisman .Consolidated Company's.property are proceeding about the same as usual, but at pre- - sent the low level works are not looking as ,;'.well as they did a. few months ago. The ' extension of the No. 13 level is being carried on both, north and south, but both faces are in very poor country. Thereof in the nor- ; thern face is carrying low values, and is not expected to improve for , some distance ahead.
