Total 723,550 648,924 The output in 1905 was the largest ever known, the- totals for 1905 and 1904 comparing with 585,080 tons in 1903, 542,167 tons in 1902, 511,020 tons in 1901, and 485,85+ tons in 1900. In 1896 the- output was 373, tons, so that in tea years the production lias practically doubled. In the last 20 years the output has practically trebled. In the trade the normal rate of increase is considered to bo about 8 per cent, per annum, but theincrease in 1905 over 1904 was per cent.
