FIRE AT PLIMMRTON.
INMATES ESCAPE IN NIGHT ATTIRE. [BV TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. A large house at Plimmerton, a sheepfarming locality on Porirua Harbour, was completely destroyed by tire at an early hour this morning. The house was a private hotel of 32 rooms, erected by the late Mr. John Plimmer, in 1893, at a cost, of about £1000. A strong breeze was blowing at the time, and as very, little water was available nothing could be done to check the ilames. In lialf-an-hour the building, which was of wood, was completely destroyed. The house was leased by Mrs. William Barrett, and in addition to her family and staff there were six or seven boarders, most of whom escaped in. their night attire. " Plimmerton House" was owned by Mr. Charles Plimmer, and was insured in the Commercial Union office for £1500. The South British Company held a, risk of £500 on the furniture. Mr. and Mrs. Barrett and most.of the other inmates lost everything, none of their property being insured.
