At the Otaki Magistrate's Court, Mr. Dobson, proprietor of theManukau Hotel, was charged with refusing to supply a commercial traveller {Mr. '{ Caulfield) with refreshment and accommodation. A dispute arose over the quality of the feed supplied to Caulfield's horse, and the publican in his defence stated that Caullield's aggressiveness had led to his refusal to provide accommodation. The magistrate said the dispute would not. justify Dobson in refusing to supply the traveller with accommodation. A counter charge against Caulfield for. using threatening language. and refusing to leave the licensed premises when requested to do so was dismissed, and Dobson was mulcted in fines and costs amounting to £7 6s Bd.
