SEVERAL, NARROW ESCAPES.

J Hokitika, Friday. ■ ;■. Ernest Wilson, one of the victims of the fatal boiler explosion at Kumara Junction yesterday, was 25 years of age, and a native of the district.
Bull, the sawyer, who was killed outright, came from Southland. , "
Le Compte's age was about 27. He was a native of : Akaroa, and was also a married niarr: He died before regaining consciousness.
. Batty, the fourth man, who was seriously injured, is progressing favourably.
Several men in the vicinity experienced very narrow escapes. One man had just left an adjacent hut, info which a flying fire-box crashed, totally destroying the habitation.
The mill had stopped fur oiling the cups and sharpening saws, otherwise other lives would probably have been 'involved. *
