SHEIKH OF KOWEYT.
PULLS DOWN BRITISH FLAG. By Telegraph.—Frees Association.—Copyright. (Received February 28. 10.47 p.m.) London, February 28. Advices received from Teheran state that instead of the flag showing that he enjoys British protection, the Sheikh .of Koweyt has hoisted the red flag with the crescent in token of his adhesion to Turkey.
_ Koweyfc is a. small territory on the western side of the Persian Gulf, near its head It has a town of 25,000 people, which has been spoken of as the terminus of the proposed German railway from Constantinople, through Bagdad, to the Persian Gulf. Sheik, M' Ba.ruk, of Koweyt. has been in repeated conflict, with the Bedouin tribes, near Koweyt, and his town has enjoyed British protection. Turkey has claimed Koweyt, but Britain has rejected the claim, and in 1901 supported M'Baruk in resisting th& pretensions of the Sultan. Britain is opposed to the proposed railway to Koweyt, unless it is under British control.
