Whaxgaeei, Wednesday. The Whangarei Tennis Club have finally decided not to hold a tournament here at Easter this season, on account of the Auckland Club holding one at that time.

At a committee meeting of the County Council, held to-day, A. Thorburn's tender of £192. for contract No. 127. Oronga Riding, consisting of chains of road formation, 20ft vide, was accented. For contract No. 137. Me.mtu I tiding, 200 yds of gravel for repair-. T. and D. Sands were the successful tenderers at 4s per cubic yard.

The Lawn Tennis Club have decided to invite entries for ladies' handicap singles and doubles, for gent.'s handicap singles and doubles, and far mixed handicap singles and doubles. Mr. (I. 11 id ay has donated a handsome trophy for the ladies' handicap singles, and Mr. A. H. Mason has abo pieseuted a trophy for a Indies' competition, not yet specified. The ladies' singles and gentlemen's singles of the present tournaiilent are approaching completion, Miss M. Woolley will meet .Miss. Madge Bain, who uffeaK'd Mix. Hall in the semi-final round, played on Tuesday. In the semi-final round of the gentlemen's singles A. B. Christian meets A. Harden, and E. 1-1 or spool meets C. S. Clark.

Mr. Hyde, the Government poultry expert, is expected to arrive in haiigarei to-mor-row by the Ngapuhi. So far the trustees of the Northern Wairoa Hospital have not accepted the suggestion of the chairman of the North Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to discuss matters in dispute at a conference composed of six representatives, three to lie selected by the trustees and three by the Board, the conference being presided over by the chairman of the Auckland Charitable' Aid Board. The petitions in favour of the IlukerenuiKawakawa railway extension are being numerously signed.
