SIR JOSEPH WARD.
NEW POST OFFICE AT PALMERSTON
NORTH.

Palmerston North, Monday. Sir Joseph Ward opened the post office to-day, in the presence of a large number of people. He said that, apart from, postcards, packages, etc., 2.199.145 letters had been dealt with at the Palmerston office last. year, and the postal and telephone revenue was £11,435. Replying to a, deputation, he said the time would arrive very shortly when people would have to pay for admission to New Zealand railway platforms to prevent overcrowding. It was impossible at present to devise a scheme whereby railway tickets could be sold like stamps in shops. [by TELEGRAPH.own correspondent.] Palmerston North, Monday. Messrs.
