MR. KIDD'S SPEECH.
Sir, —I 'cannot allow Mr. Kjdd's state l ment with regard to • Auckland's share of the Estimates to pass unheeded. Mr. Kidd states that Auckland received. £539,412, as compared with Wellington's £430,140. .Can Mr. Kidd give full particulars as to these details without . dragging in the money .'.', spent on the North Island Main Trunk ~*\ line? Perhaps Mr. Kidd has included' in '■. his quotations moneys voted :- but notv'ex- - ponded. Ido not think these assertions-of ,', his should be allowed to pass without some - word of protest. Mr. Kidd's explanation re •'*• reduction of duty,' on potatoes . j;->=exception-", ally weak. It seems, from his own words,, Lthat in the past he lias had to ask the Pre- ■■: mier whether he shall vote for this or-that motion .without offending. him. He stated that it was not known wether the crop would be affected; by blight. ; What use, may I ask, are our experts' opinions on these matters if men like Mr. Kidd will; take no notice of them,? He claims io be aworking man's candidate, and yet he voted against .this reduction of . duty* which would have jsaved - a considerable ' sum 'to the worker. It is \ very easy to vote, one way and speak another,. and all workers and the .electors in general should not forget this on December 6. Thanking you for your valu« able space. Cms.
