WAIOTAHI.
[liY Ti;i.K(;K.M'H. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] V Thames, Monday.
At the Xo. 6 level of the Waioiahi mine the drive eastward on the Xo. 5 reef has now passed through the break that came in across ttie face last week, and the reel has beetrpicked up on the other side of it. The break hail the effect of heaving the reef a short distance to the left, but it has now resumed its proper course again, and is looking about the same. The drive cast waul on the main reef is being, continued, and about bit of the haiigiiigwali portion is being taken in the drive, 'i'nere id no change as yet in the appearance of the quartz, but there is still between 30it and tOft to drive to get under the run of gold. At the No. 5 level the drive eastward on the main portion of the reef is in progress, and is producing very good quality ore. .The, whole width of the reel is being carried along in the drive, which is being timbered as the work advances, so as to prepare the block for stuping operations between this and the No. 4 level. There will be a very rich block to work between these two levels, a. height of about '/Oft on the underlie at the, No. 4 level. The drive eastward front the end of the ground lias been extended about 17ft, and The reef is continuing in that direction, about 7ft in thickness. Colours of gold are seen through it when breaking down, sufficient to warrant its being classed as payable oie. This. will lengthen the blocK of workable ground considerably. Very little is being done at present in the slopes above this level on account of the large accumulation of quart/, from the development works at the lower ievels, which are producing more ore than the present battery can cope wiu.. The new battery is now well advanced, and will probably commence work at the latter end ol the present week.
