ELECTRIC LIGHT IN WELLINGTON.
PROPOSED MUNICIPAL SCHEME. [by telegraph.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] , , , Wellington, Saturday. Before the City Council rose on Thursday night the Mayor intimated to councillors that be would like them to be prepared at their next meeting to consider the question of the Council enlarging its enterprise in the matter of supplying electrical power and light to the city. He had been conducting negotiations and gathering information, and had .matters in such a forward state now that at ; the next meeting of the Council he would probably ask councillors to decide whether the city should exercise its option of. purchasing.the business of the electrical syndi- , cate, or should 1 go into open competition ■ with the syndicate in the supply to the City of electric power and lighting.
