THE QUEEN-STREET ROBBERY.
( MITCHELL COMMITTED FOR
SENTENCE.
FjuNCIS Mitchell was charged before Messrs. E. G. Ford and S. D. Hann'jr,' j.Ps., at the Police Court, on Saturday, tf ith stealing a case of jewellery and watches, valued at £23, the property of, fjypriaii Hannah, a Queen-street shopkeeper. Stephen Koory, an assistant to jfr. Hannah, said that on Friday afternoon, before five o'clock, he was carrying goods from the door, and saw the accused lift the case from the wall, and make off with it He (witness) ran after the accused, who dropped the case on the road; Cyprian Hannah, the owner of the case, identified it as his property. Constable Hammcrsly said he was on duty in Queen-street on Friday. He saw the accused with the case pursued by Koory. The accused dropped the case, and lie (the constable) went after him, and arrested him. On taking him to the lockup accused asked him what he had locked him up for. The accused was afterwards brought before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., and pleaded guilty, and was committer for sentence. MISCELLANEOUS. :'. : : Thomas Johnston, a young man, was charged with stealing a horse-cover and two sacks, valued at 8s 6d, from the premises of William Hector Shove, Newmarket. Mr. 'J. R. Lundon defended, and. on his application a remand was granted until Thursday next. Bail was allowed in one surety at £10. Thomas James Irounson, a prohibited person, and a fourth offender, was fined 40s, or 14 days' imprisonment, for drunkenness. Thomas Hind Toppin, a second offender, was fined 10s, in default, 48 hours.
