Gregor with " revolver in his .hand, and Air. >Sargood talcing shelter behind the. piano. • They seized McGregor, and Mr. Sargood . j)inde his escape by the. window. • McGregor was disarmed, and subsequently handed over to the police. ' The bullet struck Mr. Sargood on the ;■' check, -and came out at the nape of the jieck, having apparently passed through the fleshy part of the face and neck. ' At present no serious consequences are anticipated. _ The motive for the shooting is not ' known. McGregor is of an excitable disposition., He, had quarrelled with his wife yesterday, and, taking the child with him, left the boardinghouse in which the family had been staying, taking up his quarters in Wood's private hotel. , McGregor is in custody on a charge of attempted murder. : IiATER. ' It is believed that Mr. Sargood during the day warned McGregor that he had been neglecting his work, and must pull himself together, or it would be necessary to dispense with" his services. It is presumed that this is the motive which actuated McGregor. , _ i ' On being searched at the station, it was ■ found he had 45 revolver cartridges on iiim A The revolver used was a five-cham-bered one, quite new, and probably only purchased to-day. . - When drinking the man is said to de- , velop strange notions. About two years ' ago he was fined f6r violently assaulting in the street two men unknown to him, ■' his plea being that he thought they were going to attack and rob him.
