STORMY WEATHER.
The weather yesterday was very wintry, heavy rain falling during the afternoon and throughout the night almost without inter, mission. The wind, which was blowing light from the north-east during the early part of the day, went to the eastward in the afternoon, and increased to a strong breeze, raising a heavy sea in the harbour. Towards the evening the wind shifted- into about east-south-east, blowing a moderate gale, which continued until an early hour this morning. •' ' ' '
The Northern Company's steamer Ngapilhi left Whangarpi for Auckland yesterday afternoon with a light north-east wind, but shortly after clearing Whangarei Heads' the wind suddenly shifted into the oast-south-east, blowing almost a gale, with a very heavy sea. Several . seas broke on board during, the passage, but no damage was done to either the steamer or the deck fittings, and Auckland was readied shortly after eleven o'clock last night.
