SITTING AT TE AWAMUTU.

Te Awamutu, Tuesday. The sitting of the Native School Trust Commission commenced this forenoon. The members first visited the Puniu farm of 800 acres, also the Te Awamutu block of 173 aores.

An old native residing near here stated that he was a descendant of the original donors of the land, which was a gift for the purposes of a native school. Before the Maori war there was a native school in Te Awamutu attended by 200 children. Since then the purposes of the trust had not been carried out, and witness had come to the conclusion that it was mere waste handing over the land, which he now considered should be given back to the natives. Puniu farm was given for tho purpose of raisingstock, etc., for the maintenance of the native school at 'Te Awamutu. Korokuru exercised the right of a chief when he gave the land, and did not place much importance on obtaining the consent of the other natives.,
