THE OVERLAPPING OF CHURCHES.

Sir,— may interest, your' readers to know that the overlapping of two Churches in a sparsely-populated district eight miles from Auckland, referred to by Lord Ranfurly, is at Avondale South. I happened to bo present when the late Governor drew attention to these buildings, and asked for an explanation. The Anglican Church was in this case the $jrf»t erected, largely by public subscriptions, with the - distinct understanding that the building would be available for the use, of other denominations, who might desire to hold services :n it. The present Presbyterian minister at Avondale found considerable difficulty in procuring rta use, and decided upon, building the Presbyterian schoolroom on the opposite side of the road, which is now used by the Education Board and by settlers in the district for 000103ris and meetings. Ay Avondale Ratepayer.
