MOTORS AND MOTORING.
The Automobile Club of Franco has, it is said, abandoned the stand it took in relation to this year's Gordon Bennett Cup race. it has now been finally decided that there shall not be a race for the Grand Prix this year, and the date fixed for this event will be utilised for holding the eliminating trial of tin French cars. The whole affair is, however, still in a very unsettled condition, and it is possible, that some of the foremost French makers will withdraw their entries from the cup race. It is believed by many that the unsportsmanlike attitude adopted by the A.C.F. was prompted by the need* which French makers recognise for a bi& effort to be made thifc year to establish the supremacy of the French industry over that in other countries.
In view of the agitation for motor omnibuses, the following, taken from the London .Sportsman, is interesting:—"The London cabmen are. keenly alive t. the possibilities of an up-to-date motor-driven vehicle, and the Cab Drivers' Union has undertaken the practical instruction of its members in the care and adjustment of a motor. J'or this purpose a 6i h.p. Humburette has been acquired and placed in the boardroom of the union, where instruction classes will be held throughout the day and evening, under the tuition of a practical man who has had actual experience of driving a motor cab in London. The. London Motor Cab Company and London Motor Express Company are working in conjunction with the union in this matter. The former company expect to have r large number of cubs running on the streets withi.i a few weeks' time, the experimental vehicles which have been tried liaving proved entirely successful."
