AT WELLINGTON. Tut: current issue of the Auckland Weekly News contains a remarkable variety of striking and interesting illustrations, cover-
ing a wide range of subjects. Among the current events dealt with will be found some excellent pictures' of the- volunteer Easter manoeuvres in different parts of the colony, which convey some knowledge of the popularity of the volunteer movement, and thmanner in which the annual manoeuvres are entered into in the various centres. The opening of the shooting season is illustrated) by duck-shooting pictures at Lake Whangape and on the Waikato River. Other current events dealt with include the Foresters' picnic at Motutapu on Saturday last, Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, t-hr University tournament at Wellington during Eastei. week-, and the Wellington tennis tournament.
The double-page of the issue is devoted to panoramic views of the Waihi mine, one of the. world's great gold-producers. The famous Waihi mine is so closely associated with the progress and prosperity of Auckland and of the whole gold-producing centres of the colony, that the pictures are bound to be eagerly welcomed. One shows the great oper cut on tin Martha lode, where the surface oi the wonderful reef was worked, and the other depicts the mine from the Martha Hill, and shows the surface works and buildings at the various shafts.
Numerous other groups, views, and por-f traits, including the late Mi. A. H. Nathan, Mr. A. M. Myers (Auckland's newly-elected Mayor), New Zealand's rifle team for Bisley, the Trades and Labour Conference at Wellington, North Island Main Trunk rail* war, and New Zealand's National Park, together with the usual amount of high-class letterpress, contribute to a most attractive number, and a publication which for general public interest stands unrivalled in the colonies.
