BOARD OF EDUCATION.
Tut Auckland Board of Education met yesterday, Mr. S. Luke (chairman) presiding. There were also present: Messrs. 11. .1. Greenslade, R. Hobbs, .1. Stallworthy, J. D. McKeiizic, C. .1. Parr, G. V. Edgcunibe, A. R. Harris, and L. J. Bagnall. Finance Committee: The report of the Finance Committee was adopted, as follows: —Your committee, having' considered the statement of assets and liabilities on building fund account at March 31, recommend that application be made to the Minister for the payment of the quarterly instalment on account of the ordinary grant, for school buildings. Your committee recommend that the attention of the Minister should be called to the outstanding applications for special grants for school buildings. Your committee have considered the circular, dated January 20, 1905, from the Education Department, prescribing certain conditions to the Board's expenditure of the ordinary grant for school buildings. Youi committee recommend ll) that tho Minister should bo referred to the Board's communication dated .March 10, in which it is urged that such conditions are inconsistent with the provisions of tho Education Act : (2) and that the Minister should bo informed that tho Board cannot, sex; its way to carry them out, inasmuch as they fail to make adequate provision for meeting the requirements of tins education district. Teachers' Selection: The report of the Teachers' .Selection Committee was adopted, as follows: —Tho committee recommend that if.is following appointments should be authorised by the Board:-Mr. R. T. Reid, to be teacher of Punakitere school: Mr. Edward Crosby, to be teacher of To Matai school: Mr. F. H. Smith, to bo teacher of Rotorangi school; Mr. Norman R. Harris, to be teacher of Wainui and White Hills half-time schools. Mr. Hugh F. McCiunc, to be teacher of Matakohe No. 2 school: .Mr. Hon F. McDonald, to be teacher of Golden Cross school: Mr. William Collins, to be headmaster of Maiuigaftiroto school; Mr. Edward Perkins, to lie headmaster of Kawakawa school; Mr. G. A. Davidson, to be a relieving toucher; Miss E. M. Chapman, to Ardmoro school, as temporary substitute; Miss Daisy Do-in, to Tawharo school, as temporary substitute; Miss Mary O. Kelly, assistant, to Nelson-street school; Miss Jane E. Collins, assistant, to Parnell school; Miss M. E. Driver, assistant, to Parawai school; Miss M. S. La very, to be mistress Morrinsvillo school; Miss Louisa Worrall, to be mistress Whakataue school; Miss Elsie B. Carder, to bo mistress Raglan school; Miss Evelyn M. Carter, pupil-teacher, to Ilikurangi school; Miss Ruby M. (Nottingham, pupil-teacher, to Richmond Road school; Mis Phyllis K. Cowan, nupiltoaehor, to Remuera school; Miss Hilda E. Canity, pimil-teaehor, to District High school, Waihi; Miss Ethel F. A. .Scats, pupil-teacher, (<:; Beresford-stroet school. The committee recommend that school committees be consulted in regard to proposed appointments as follows: — Puma, Miss; Honriette M. Carter; Waihi (assistant), Mr. Frederick R. S. Bullen; Newton West (assistant), Misses B. M. Nolan, M. F. Egan, and M. G. Ram so : Turua (mistress), Mioses E. Greenwood and E. B. Battersby. The commit recommend that applications for the undernamed appointments be invited by advertise-;—-Papakura (mistress), £95; Kirikiri (mistress), £85; Port Albert (mistress). £80; Karangahako (lady assistant), £50; Mount Edeu (lady assistant), £80. Election: The Board re-elected Mr. L. J. Bagnall as a governor of the Auckland Grammar School. Dargaville School: A tender was received foi additions to Dargaville school, but this was not accepted, pending further application to the Miuisfe, regarding a grant towards the cost of .same. Seholarshii: Regulations: Following upon l''id proposal to amalgamate the junior national scholarships with the junior district scholarships, tho drawing up of the necssnry regulations was referred to the sub-commit-toe already set up to deal with tilt question. Training College: It was decided to advert iso in the colony and in England for a principal for the Auckland Normal School and Training College. Technical School: The appointment of Miss Gertrude Former as assistant teacher in cookery at (he Ponsonby Manual Training School was confirmed. It was agreed that the distribution of prizes in connection with the school should take nlnoe. on Anril 18. Tenders lor the Whangarei Manual Training School were deferred, pending receipt of a definite answer regarding the school from Government.. Tho consideration of the annual report of the director was deferred.
