The Anglican Church is erecting a now church at Karangahake, all 1 tin; building should he ready in a coup!.? of months' time. A new organ, co.-ting about £100, is also if) be placed in the church, and a monstet and .successful fete was held at Karangahake in aid of tho funds on Thursday night. There was a largo attendance, and several novel features were introduced. A choice musical programing was submitted, including items by the I'aeroa Banjo and Mandolin Club, Mesdarnes Crease, Hilton, and Misses McGregor, Woodward, and Young. About £30 was realised. The Karangahake ambulance waggon, a description of which has already appeared in the llkkald. has reached its destination. ft is now upwards of eight years since the ladie.s of Karangahake arranged a bazaar, etc.. for tho purpose of raiding funds to establish a hospital for Oliinemuri, the result being that, the sum of £60 was realised. When tho Waihi Hospital was established an unsuccessful effort was made to get tho Karangahake funds us well as the larger amount raised at i'aeroa handed over to the. Waihi trustees. Seeing that the "Waihi people had Jntilt a hospital this, however, was not looked upon as an Ohinemuri hospital, and it, was decided to convert the hospital fund to a local ambulance fund. According to the usual custom, this fund carried a Government subsidy of £] 4s in the '£, which thus provided a sufficient sum to purchase an ambulance, the only difficulty being that it would have to be vested in a hospital board. With this object the Thames Hospital trustees were approached, and an attempt made to make arrangements with them, but the negotiations fell through, and it was then dccidid to apply direct to tho Government for ;t special grant of £99 to enable the ambulance to be purchased and held under local public control. The application was acceded to, and now the ambulance i- an established fact. The County Council ha? now made a grant of £25 to assist in providing a suitable shed.
