THE CITY ABATTOIRS.
THE FREEZING COMPANIES' PRO- - POSALS DECLINED. The Finance Committee of the. City Council, which has had under its consideration the recent correspondence relating to the abattoir question (including the proposals by the Farmers'. Freezing Company, Limited, and R. and W. Hellaby, Limited), submitted the following report to the Council last evening:—"That the Council should erect its own abattoirs, but before proceeding to take the portion of Fairbuni's land, application be made to the Farmers' Freezing. Company, Limited, for the purpose of ascertaining upon what terms they would lease 20 acres or more of their land for a period of 66 years, a reply to be asked for before the 29th inat." The report of the committee was adopted without discussion. The position now is, therefore, that the Council has decided to erect its own abattoirs, the question of a sit® being still unsettled.
