At the inquest on Thomas Maddoeks, a 60-year-old resident, who was found dead at the residence of his son-in-law on Wednesday, a verdict that death was due to natural causes was returned. He died of heart disease. Wellington, Thursday. Reports received by the Agricultural DeI partment show that the Government stud 1 horses and cattle have been in good demand this season. For Shorthorn stock the demand was greater than could be supplied, both in the North and South Islands. GISBORNE, Thursday. , The Harbour Board to-night discussed the subject of harbour works at some length, and appointed a committee to report on the whole question as to whether the works being proceeded with were proving satisfactory, and would cope with the increasing trade of the pert. Dunedin, Thursday. Mr. Bendix Hallensiein bequeathed £500 towards the erection of a new ward at the Dunedin Hospital. Wellington, Thursday. The Minister for Railways has issued a circular asking for information as to quantity of grain on hand packed in bags weighing over 2001b, in order that he may be. in a position to determine whether it is possible to waive the provisions of 'the bylaw coining into operation on February 1 charging sacks containing more than 2001b four times the ordinary rate. i ' '.
