j [by TTLE JEAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION".] 1 Wellington'', Saturday. I .At a public meeting called by the State ! Schools' Defence League last night the | following resolution was carried:—"That • this meeting protests against the question of religious: instruction in State schools : being submitted to a referendum, because ; (a) it is outside the function of the State ' to deal with matters of religion, and (b) ' if such religious instruction is given it will j imperil tie existing system of State educa- : tion, and must inevitably impose a re- ! ligous test on teachers."
