AN EXCITING SEARCH.
TWO MEN ARRESTED.
[St telegraph.—special correspondent.] Wellington, Thursday. AS exciting chase after two young men who were suspected of theft took place yesterday in the dead of night in Te Aro House, one of the largest drapery establishment* is ths city. A nightwatchman, who patrols the vicinity, observed that one of the outside doors had been tampered with, and summoned the police. While be and another man watched outside three policemen and a civilian entered the premises to see who Was inside. They searched lor about haii-an-hour. before discovering one of the fugitives. Ib their course they barricaded the behind them, and against one of these doors they placed a heavy roll of linoleum. This Ttras' knocked over by one of the mem, who tins proclaimed his whereabouts, and Rogers ; the civilian, armed with a revolver, bailed him up in the. carpet department. The search for the other man was continued, and shortly afterwards he was found in me of the windows. The two prisoners, John Moffat and Henry Charles Falkner, were brought before the Magistrate's Court this morning on a charge of having broken and entered the Te Aro House the previous Sight, and stolen the sum of £9 15s sd, and stamps to the value of ss. On the application of Sub-Inspector O'Donovan, the accused Were remanded until to-morrow.
