THE MANCHURIAN POSITION

ADVANCE BEYOND BAMAOHI. (Keeeived June 25, 12. a.m.) London, June 24. A force from Suiyen is pressing forward towards Liao-yang, and a large force has fortified Kwantien, where 18 guns have been mounted. ' The Japanese are now constructing fortifications at Bapinhai, 25 miles north-east of Samachi, and are thus menacing the rear of General Kuropatkin's position at Liao-yang and his communications. There are indications that besides the IS divisions in the first line, the Japanese have sent into Manchuria 13 reserve brigades. The consensus of opinion among the critics is that the next battle will be fought in the hilly region between Haicheng and Shimu-chong,-the latter place being between Suiyen and Haicheng.
