COROMANDEL NEWS.

AN entertainment in aid of the funds of the Coromondel District High School, held in, tiu> Caledonian Hal! on Thursday night, was a pronounced success. The audience was large and appreciative, and there is a substantial credit after paying expenses. The schoolteachers are deserving of much commendation for the way in which the children were trained, their singing, reciting, and drill being quite a feature of the evening. The programme was as follow*:—Mr'. Arthur McNeil's orchestra, ".Soldiers in the Park;" vocal selection, "Merry Soldiers," Miss Egan's pupils; song, Sailing, Mr. Hyatt; recitation, " Pip, Pop and Pep," Miss Egan's pupils; song, Believe," Miss Maguire, who had to respond to an Imperative encore; Master L. Sherlock recited " How He Helped Himself," and In response to an encore, " Hot Leetle Dog." Mr. Cory was very successful in his song, " The Gladiator," and in response to encores contributed "Paddy Leary" and " Father O'Flynn," Mr. H. T. Middleton contributed thiee whistling solos, being loudly applauded. Wand drill, Miss Egan's pupils; selection, McNeil's orchestra; physical drill, by the High School Cadets, under Mr. A. H. Gatland; selection, " When the Rosy Morn," Mr. 11. E. Jamieson's pupils; exhibition of club-swinging, by Mr. Jamiescn; duet, "The Lily and the Hose," Mrs. Alien and Miss H. Praser; comic song, " Early in the Morning" (encored), Mr. C. Hooper: song, "Why Must We Say Good-bye Miss Maguire; song, " I Have Crown so Used to You," Mr. H. T. Midiilelon, and in response to an imperative encore " Remember Me No More." Master K. Sherlock recited " .Something Spilt," and as an encore "The Bravest Hoy in Town;" vocal selection, " Scenes That are Brightest," Mr. Jamiesnn's pupils. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a highly-successful entertainment. The accompaniments were played by the Misses Frsser, Visions, and Glbbs, and Mrs. French.
