AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB'S

AUTUMN MEETING.

CONCLUDING DAY.

Under favourable weathc conditions the Auckland Trotting Club's Autumn Meeting of three- clays was brought to a close on Saturday afternoon at Alexandra Park. A card of seven events served to engage the attention of a good attendance of patrons, and brisk speculation was evidenced by a totnlisator return of £2005, bringing the investments for the gathering to £5888 10s. The sport was again well conducted by Mr. G. 1. Mark (secretary) and his fellow officials, and in the absence- oi Mr. A. R. Harris, the duties of judge were satisfactorily carried out by Mr, Isaac Hill. Appended are the results of the various races: —

The limit gelding, Cleave, showed the way round the back, and was temporarily caught at the. dip by Green Lavender, who, however, broke, and lost way. . The latter was fast catching the leader as they ran into the straight, and had overhauled the pacemaker at the gates. A bit further on Green Lavender lifted, and enabled Bell Car and Pleasonton, who were moving up, to decrease the gap. Green Lavender was done with at the homo turn, and I'leasanton's chances were looking bright when ho broke, and left Bell Car to win by 10yds from Green Lavender, who was a bit to the good of Cleave and (Pleasanton. For the first half-mile Bryn was setting the pace for Victor Hugo, hut as they ran past the stand the field was hunching up, and Miss Hiion was most prominent. Along tho buck stretch Federation had asserted himself, but was displaced by Sir Robert as tho dip was entered. Harold Abdallah (in harness) was in command as they came into the straight, hut at the business part of the journey Sit Robert went to the head of affairs, and holding his stable companion safe was returned a winner by 2yds, Federation being well up, third, and closely attended by Young Salisbury, whose driver was fined £3 3s for allowing his horse to gallop at several stages of the race. The colours of Orange and Blue and Lady Lottie were most prominent from an even start, and the pair measured strides to the top stretch, with Manoeuvre and Whawhai lying handy. Lady Lottie asserted herself to the dip,* and a bit further on Manoeuvre threw out a strong challenge, and was having the- best of it in the run to the post. Manoeuvre was tackled by Lady Lottie in the last bit, but lasted long enough to score by a bit bettor than hnlf-a-lengtb from his opponent. A gap of three lengths separated the leaders from Whawhai; then came Orange and Blue and Annoyed. Time, lm. 25 l-ss. Totalisator, 736. Dividends, 16s and 16s.

Lucky, was still in front as the dip was entered, and was hero joined by Belladonna, 'who had placed a considerable gap between herself and the field as the back stretch was again covered. Belladonna held her own for the remainder of the journey, and won, pulling tip, by 50yds from "Fibre, who just, bent Polly 11. for second honours. Time, 4m. 5 2-ss. Totalisator, 556. Dividends, £2 6s and £5 18s.

Rushlight led 801 l Car on the first circuit, when Bell Car took charge, and was joined by Duchess of Rothschild as the- back stretch again came to be covered. Duchess of Rothschild, who was going nicely, went to the. head of affairs at the- home turn, but was challenged by Federation over the last furlong. Mr. Meßride's representative was kept going, and stalling off her opponent managed to register a victory by a couple of yards. Bell Car was a poor third. Time. 2m. 465. Totalisator, 620. Dividends, £16 Is and 13s. A protest entered against the winner on the grounds of inconsistent running was dismissed.

Baxter looked a likely winner up to the home turn, where Albert Victor came into prominence, and holding Duke C, who came again, safe in the run home, won a good race by throe yards from Duke C, Waitekauri a moderate third.
