THE IMPERIAL HOTEL BURGLARY.
MISSING PROPERTY RECOVERED. Another arrest has been effected in connection with the burglary at the Imperial Hotel an the sth inst.
I At the Polios Court yesterday, Thomas O'Connor, the young man arrested some ■ days ago, appeared before Mr. C. ' ('. Kettle, S.M., charged with stealI ing £134 in money, and £194 I worth of jewellery, the property of J Thomas Pearce. Oa the charge being read j the accused said lie wished for a remand until ; to-morrow. Chief Detective Grace, for the prosecution, consented. lie explained that ; O Connor had ealv given them the names of I a number of witnesses, whom ho wanted sub- ; pcrnaed, the previous day, and the police ? were now endeavouring to find then:. The i application was granted, and tho accused i was remanded accordingly. j Last evening, however, Inspector Cullen received a wire from Tc Awamutu, stating that a man named Darlington, alias McCann, had beeu arrested there, and charged with ■ the offence. He had been shadowed l)y De- ' tectives McMulion and Mcllveney, who j effected the arrest.
Inspector Culleu was also informed that all the jewellery and some of the money alleged to have been stolen, was recovered.
Darlington will be brought to Auckland to-day, arriving at half-past two p.m.
