At the monthly meeting of the Pons>onby branch of tho Women's Christian Temperance' Union Mrs. Upton (secretary of the Auckland Mothers' - Union and delegate to the convention) gave a very graphic and interesting report of her recent visit to the convention at Blenheim. All slid had seen and heard inspired her, she ?aid, 1.0 be more zealous in the cause, and this inspiration was enthused into all present. To-morrow a mothers' meeting will be held. WAIKATO POULTRY AND CANARY CLUE. At a meeting of the committee of the Waikato Poultry and Canary Club the collectors reported thai they have met with success. The proposal to hold an art union in connection with the show was considered and abandoned. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the North Island Association asking for suggestions re judges. A committee was appointed to draw up the schedules. t MINISTERS' ASSOCIATION. The first meeting of the Ministers' Association after the summer recess was held in the Mount Eden Congregational Church on Monday, the Rev, \N . Day, president of the association. in the chair. There was a large attendance. The first hall-hour was spent in devotional exercises, after which matters of interest to the churches were discussed. A committee, consisting of tile Revs. V,. Day, W. Gray Dixon. M.A., and A. North was appointed to inquire re the prohibition of any but the Anglican burial service in the Purewa Cemetery. A letter was read re a contemplated visit irom Reginald A. Studd : also one from the Duneuhi Council of the Churches, on a proposed invitation to one of the prominent evangelists in England. The question was postponed until the next meeting. Several new members were elected. BUCKXAND LITERARY SOCIETY. Oil Thursday last, in spite of the inclemency of the weather, a number of people assembled in the Buckland school for tho ordinary meeting of the Buckland Literary and Debating Society. The subject for debate was, " Which has produced the Greatest Men, England, Ireland, or Scotland?" A papor on England's great men was read by Mr. Wily, one on Scotland's by Mr. Scott, while a well delivered address was given by Mr. Hamilton on Ireland's great men. After an . interesting discussion, a vote was taken, England having three times as many supporters as Scotland and Ireland together. MASONIC INSTALLATION. There was a large attendance at in* .Masonic Hall, Thames, last night, when Brother James .lonian, the well-known and popular clerk of the District Magistrate's ami Warden's Courts, was duly installed as W.M. of Corinthian Lodge, No. 1055, E.C. The anniversary services of i tie Thames ifelhodist Church were held on Sunday last, the prcachci being the Rev.C. C. Harrison, of Waihi. The congregations were good at each service, arid special hymns and anthems were rendered by the choir and orchestra, under ho eonductorship of Mr. J. p. Williams. Last evening the anniversary was further celebrated by a public meeting and concert, the Rev. Robt. Taylor, pastor of the church, presiding. Interesting and instructive addresses were given by the ministers of sister churches, and items rendered by the choir; assisted by friends. Amongst the soloist? were Mr. and Mrs. Abel Rowe and Miss Wrigley, of Auckland, and Misses M. Iknvden and Janet Williams, and Messrs. J. Hardman and E. Deeb'te. FAREWELL TO A METHODIST MINISTER. [BY telegraph.—OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] Co bom a n DEI., Tuesday. There was a large gathering at the Methodist Church, Coromandel, on Monday evening, the occasion .being a conversazione to formally bid good-bye to the Rev. S. 11. D. and Mrs. Peryman, who are proceeding to Northern Wairoa. Mt. John Cleave (circuit steward) accepted the chair, and in the course of the evening presented Mr. Pervman with a purse of sovereigns, accompanied with the good wishes of the Methodists of Coromandel foi the future welfare of Mr. and Mrs. Peryimin and family. Addresses were also given by Messrs. Bon B. .Johnson, F. ■Jeune, C. F. Battson, Captain Martin, and the Revs. Pciyman and Fawcott (the new-pas-tor). iVitisical items were rendered by the choir as follows:—"By the Rivers of Babylon," "Id God is Out Trust," and "Praise the Lord." Mr. Cory contributed a nolo, and the Missoa Martin a duet. Refreshments were handed round, and a very enjoyable evening, was spent. The Rev. D IT. Faweett, 'lie new minister, arrived in Coromandel oil Monday, and wan aeorded a hearty wo'como. Mr. p!>rvrnatt, with his family, left by the s.s. Rotomabana yesterday for Northern Wairoa.
