HOCKEY.
All the local hockey clubs are holding their meetings during this and next week, and the game promises to be in full swing by tho end of the month. The prospects for the incoming season appear very bright, and it is thought there will be six clubs to compete for the championship, which starts early in May. There are already five clubs formed, viz.. United, Auckland, University, West End, and College) Rifles, and there is some talk of Onehunjia forming a club. ( Tho newly-formed College Rifles Hockey Club has it membership of over 30, and they held a useful practice at the Remuera ground last Saturday. The annual meeting of the Auckland Club is to bo held in tho Sports Clubrooms on Monday evening next, and the United Club hold their meeting in the same rooms tomorrow (Thursday) night. The United Club, winners of tho senior championship last season, have lost two of their best players, Matthews having gone back to Christchurch. while H. White has thrown in his lot with the College Rifles Olub. They are also wwakoucd in their junior ranks, as a number have joined the volunteer club.
The Auckland Club will hold a practice 011 their ground at Auckland's paddock, Epsom, on Saturday next.
