MESSRS, ARCH, CLARK AND SONS' PICNIC.
THE annual picnic of Messrs. Arch. Clark and Sons, Ltd. factories' employees took place on Saturday. Through the courtesy of Mr. James Reid, Motutapu was the destination, and the p.s. Eagle conveyed upwards of 400 to that pleasant spot. 'I lie day turned out perfect for such an outing, and a pood programme of sports way much enjoyed. The various officials worked hard to uiaka things go off well, notably Mr. Bullock (" Mminis"), who with the bell assembled the competitors. The girls' tug-oi-war proved the most keenly contested event, and the men's sack race (backwards) produced the most merriment. A atari was matte for home at five o'clock, the band striking up " For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" for Messrs. Reid and Craig, who had done bo much for the visitors,. Dancing to Mr. lmpey's Land and various little concert parties made, the trip home very short, and before berthing at the quay a hearty vote of thanks to the firm for their liberality was proposed by MrLyons and seconded by Air. Collins. Mr. Harry (.'lark, on behalf of the firm, suitably responded, and said he hoped they would have many more such outings. Ladies' Handicap, 75yda: M. Harris, 1; I. Hansen, 2, Ladies' Tug-of-War: Mrs. Woods' team (shirt factory*, 1. Obstacle Race (in couples): Laing and Collins, 1; Speed and Lawsoa, 2. Ladies' Sack Race: Lockwood, 1; H.'iigh, 2. Men's hup, Step, and Jump: Vaughan, 1; C. Speed, 2. Ladies' Championship: Lucas, 1; A. Kearney, 2. Couples' Wheelbarrow Race: Lockwood and Laing, 1. Men's Three-legged Race: Hobhs and Vaughan, 1, Tandem Race: Hobbs and Vaugkan, 1. Men's Sack Race (backwards): C. Speed, 1; Vaughan, 2. Ladies' Hun Rare: I. Hansen, 1; Haigh, 2. Ladioa' Potato Race: Haigh, 1; Noonan. 2. Couples' Tie-fastening Race: A. Kearney and C. Speed, 1. Mr. Beid's Employees' Race:' McFetridge, 1. Men's Tug-of-War: Shirt Factory, 1, Handicappers, Messrs. Blair and Woods; starters. Messrs. H. Clark and Bullock; judge (tug-of-war), Mr. Held; judges. Messrs. Lyons and Collins.
