SPORTING.

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING. FIRST DAY. The Auckland Trotting Club's autumn meeting, which extends over three days, was opened on Saturday afternoon, when the weather conditions proved favourable and the attendance was good. Under the skilful management of Mr. 0. I*. Mark (secretary), assisted by an efficient body of stewards, the afternoon's sport was controlled in a manner that left no room for complaint on the part of the patrons, and though one or two of the finishes in the trotting races resulted in runaway victories, the racing on the whole was interesting and enjoyable. The track was rather heavy in some parts. Mr. A. R. Harris, who for so many years has been associated with the- sport, occupied his accustomed place in the judge's box, whilo Mr. Geo. Read struck the times for the various events, which were started by Mr. 0. O'Connor with marked success. During the afternoon the sum of £2055 was passed through the totalisator in 10s tickets.
