THE ordinary meeting of the Devonport Borough Council, which was held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr.• E. W. Alison, M.H.R.) and Messrs. Handler, Logan, Walker. Edgcunibe, Dacre, Graham, Philson,, and Mason

The Mayor said - that he ; thought it would be. better to "Bell the reserve at once, as-to dear it. and to keep it clear of blackberry would be an immense undertaking. If it* were sold it would bring in revenue in 'the form of rates, whereas it was an encumbrance now, It was resolved to refer the matter to the Work» and Streets Committee for report, to request the inspector to visit the spot with them, and, to instruct the Works and Streets Committee to consider whether the reserve should be sold or not.

Licensed Vehicle Fares: On the recommendation of the Streets and Works Committee it was resolved that the fares to be charged for the conveyance of passengers within the borough by all licersed vehicles plying for hire, excepting such as run on a Used time-table, be (1) 3d per head for any distance within the limits of Cheltenham Beach, Grove Road, gas works, or Stanley Bay; (2) 6d. per head for any distance beyond those mentioned; (3) Is for every quarter of an hour for hire by time; (4) 6d only to the racecourse on race days; and (5) fare and ahalf to an: place after eight p.m. The Council also decided to make it an injunction that whenever any dispute arose between a passenger and a driver that the farmer may demand to be driven to the council chambers at-the lattei-'s expense in order to settle the dispute. These regulations were ordered to be put up in a prominent place. inside each cab, the Council to bear the coßt of printing. .■'■■:■■ ____ '■ WAIHI. [by TELEGEXTH.—OTvTf CORRESPONDENT.] WAIHI, Tuesday, The Waihi Borough Council have been advised that the gold duty paid by the Auckland branch of the National Bank on behalf of the Waihi Gold Mining Company for the month of February amounted to £1314 4a. The Council have also- received the following revenue:—Second instalment of £5000" on 'account of the waterworks loan £209 lis: 4d, being the goldfields revenue for the period ending January 31; £14 12s, being fees and fines obtained at the Warden's Court for the quarter ended December 31; and £4 lis, fees and fines from the Magistrate's Court.
