A TAURANGA IDENTITY.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] Tatranga, Tuesday. To-day one of Tauranga's oldest and most respected settlers passed away in the person of Mr. John Maxwell, aged 70, the senior partner of the firm of Maxwell and Sons, the owners of the Belfast Bakery and general merchants. Mr. Maxwell was the oldest identity here, and was a man of irreproachable character, and highly respected. Mr. Maxwell was a subordinate officer in the 40th Regiment, and after coming to New Zealand, and acquiring the wai medal, he went into business as a general merchant 30 odd years ago. He was a leading Mason in the place, and was one of the original founders of the Lodge Tauranga. He leaves a grown-up family. .
