ARRIVALS IN NEW ZEALAND
LARGE INCREASE.
New Zealand is- still attracting a large number of working men from the Australian States, and in spite of the large infix of passengers tho majority of the newcomers are finding it comparatively easy to get employment, so long as they are willing to take tho class of work which is to be nad. For labourers there is no work available in the town; in fact, the number ot men seeking employment is altogether out ot proportion to the employment offering, but for labourers willing to £0 to the country, and suitable for the country work, there is an unsatisfied demand, and in consequence men of fehifl class are finding no difficulty whatever in getting employment. Fur tradesmen there is also plenty of employment in almost all branches, and those arriving with good credentials are getting engaged almost at once. The Mokoia, which arrived from Sydney on Sunday night, brought 14.5 steerage passengers, a large proportion of them being working men.
The arrivals in the colony last year numbered 30,883, as against 30,293 in 1902, whilst the departures fr„m the colony, 19,603, were le»s iluui taose of the previous year, 22.501. The excess of arrivals over departures last year was 11,275, against 7992 in 1902. The figures under the heading " United Kingdom" for 1905 show an excess of 1756 arrivals over the departures, and from Australia there is an excess of 9949 persons, but in regard to other countries the departures exceeded the arrivals by 430.
