Moekie), Mercantile Chambers. , . In. . the /..,: absence of Mr. H. E. Sharp (president), Mr. Jno. Parr (vice-president) occupied the chair. There was a pood attendance of members.. The secretary intimated that arrangementsfor the annual conference fixed to be held in Auckland on December 1 and 2 next (the week following the Agricultural' Show) were now well advanced. The. following gentlemen had consented to contribute short papers on interesting and important subjects: Mr. W. A. Boucher (Government Pornologist), " Spraying in General Various Methods, Sprays and J'umps;" Signer Bragato (Government Viticulturist), "viticulture: the Present Outlook:" Captain Thomas Broun (Government Entomologist), "Mattel's Relating to Insect Life;" Mr. William Johns "Claims of the Auckland Fruitgrowers' Union to the Support of Producers;" Mr. F. C. Rollett, "Fruit Distribution." Mr. T. W. Kirk (Government Biologist) wrote from Wellington accepting the invitation to be present at the conference. Preliminary arrangements wore made for talcing visiting delegates and members of the union to one j of the largest Auckland orchards. Several i members subscribed to the fund for the erection of a statue of Sir John Logan Campbell. Although the annual conference is primarily for the benefit of members of the t'iiiitgTowcrs' Union, and of the various affiliated associations, anyone having an interest in tlie welfare of the industry is welcome (6 attend ,the sittings at which the papers are to be read. Any grower may become a member of the union upon payment of a minimum subscription, of 5s per year.
